The Indian Air Force has lost a courageous officer, Wing Commander Namansh Syal, in a devastating Tejas aircraft crash during the Dubai Air Show 2025. The untimely demise has prompted widespread expressions of grief from across India, including from the entertainment and sports fraternities.
Kamal Haasan, a prominent actor and politician, shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), mourning the loss of Wing Commander Syal. He referred to the deceased pilot as a “brave son of India” whose sacrifice while flying the Tejas fighter jet was a moment of national pride. Haasan extended his sincere condolences to the pilot’s grieving family.
Actor Sonu Sood also joined in mourning, noting that the nation was united in its sorrow. He praised Wing Commander Syal’s bravery and dedication to his country, stating that his sacrifice would be remembered forever. A salute was offered to the fallen hero.
Suniel Shetty, speaking at the WNC’s Half Marathon, called the incident “very sad” and expressed profound respect for the nation’s serving officers. Investigations into the exact cause of the Tejas crash are currently underway.
Singer Adnan Sami and prominent athletes such as Yuvraj Singh, PV Sindhu, Ishant Sharma, and Yuzvendra Chahal have also conveyed their sympathies. Chahal and Singh specifically sent condolences to the family and the IAF. Wing Commander Syal’s remains were flown back to India, accompanied by a ceremonial guard of honour from the Emirati Defence Forces.
