In a move towards women’s empowerment, the Bihar government has launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana. This scheme, approved by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will offer ₹10,000 to one woman from each family in Bihar to help them start their chosen profession. The initiative is designed to promote self-sufficiency among women and increase employment prospects. The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in women’s empowerment since November 2005. This new scheme aims to support women in becoming self-reliant and contributing to the progress of Bihar and their families’ financial stability. The first installment of ₹10,000 will be provided to women to kickstart their desired employment. The application process will be announced soon and managed by the Rural Development Department with support from the Urban Development and Housing Department. The funds will be directly transferred to women’s bank accounts starting from September 2025. After six months of employment, an assessment will be done, and up to ₹2 lakh in additional funds may be given. Additionally, ‘Haat bazaars’ will be created throughout the state for women to sell their products.
