Tragedy struck Chhattisgarh as an early evening train collision near Bilaspur claimed 11 lives and left several passengers injured. A passenger MEMU train, en route from Gevra Road to Bilaspur, struck the rear of a stationary freight train. The catastrophic collision occurred approximately 4 PM on Tuesday within the South East Central Railway zone, between the Gatora and Bilaspur stations. Powerful visuals captured the aftermath, revealing a passenger coach elevated onto the freight wagons, a stark testament to the force of the impact. Officials have confirmed the updated casualty figures, with 11 individuals losing their lives and 20 sustaining injuries. The cause of the accident is currently under scrutiny, with preliminary investigations exploring possibilities such as signal malfunctions or operator mistakes that could have led to the trains being on the same line. Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister has pledged support, announcing Rs. 5 lakh compensation for families of those who perished and Rs. 50,000 for the wounded, who will also receive free medical care. Rescue and recovery efforts were followed by the resumption of train operations.
