Mumbai, Feb 28—Samajwadi Party stalwart Abu Azmi rallied for electoral purity, telling reporters the Election Commission must lead with integrity in Special Intensive Revision and deliver untainted civic polls.
Local elections revealed manipulations, Azmi said. ‘My area’s voters listed but barred—BJP’s ploy to eliminate opposition votes.’ Duplicates warrant fixes, but not selective purges, he clarified.
Addressing Gujarat’s wedding regulations, Azmi highlighted tensions. ‘Adults marry freely by law, yet divorce and conversion scares grip parents. Foster understanding instead of mandates.’
Holi neared with Azmi’s call for harmony. ‘Greet all; colors unite, don’t alienate. Cherish togetherness on every festival.’
Kejriwal’s bail prompted advice. ‘Welcome back, but cease accusations. Jails hit all parties. Unite genuinely against threats to constitutional values.’
For Ramzan, Azmi renewed pleas for employee concessions like in Telangana. ‘Repeated CM appeals hang unanswered.’
Public safety crumbled, he warned. ‘Broad-daylight crimes, Shifa’s Mankhurd killing horrify. Ramp up cops, build stations, enforce strictly—demands tabled in assembly.’
