Following extensive flooding and heavy rain in North India, the Supreme Court has taken suo motu action. The Court has issued notices to the Central government and several states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, and Haryana. The states are required to respond within three weeks regarding the unfolding crisis. The Chief Justice highlighted the extensive damage in Punjab, noting the obliteration of fields and villages, and emphasized the need for balancing development and environmental protection.
