A chilling tale of deception and crime rocked Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum as police arrested 57-year-old Pandey Nag for raping a minor under the cover of tantric healing. Operating from Mundasai in Jagannathpur, the fraudster capitalized on a family’s desperation.
The Todanghatu household invited him for their child’s illness. Hours of mock worship later, Nag engineered solitude by dispatching the mother and son for ritual disposal, then attacked the vulnerable girl left behind.
Her tearful confession to the returning kin sparked immediate outrage. The accused bolted, but not for long. An FIR under POCSO and related laws was filed March 1 at Jagannathpur station.
Led by SDPO Rafael Murmu, a dedicated squad raided hideouts, capturing Nag on Monday. He owned up to the offense in custody. The minor received comprehensive medical care, statement recording, and psychosocial support to aid recovery and testimony.
Prosecutors aim for a chargesheet soon, pushing for expedited court proceedings. Beyond the arrest, this exposes systemic risks where fake occultists dupe and endanger the innocent, calling for stricter oversight in tribal belts.
