Assam is preparing for a significant infrastructure boost, highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Darrang on September 8. Key developments include the establishment of a medical college and hospital in the district. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for this healthcare project during the visit to Punia. The Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate the Narengi-Kurua bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road. A total of roughly Rs 8,000 crore in development projects are slated to be launched from Darrang. The Chief Minister noted the historical lack of infrastructure in Darrang, formerly a sub-division of Sonitpur, and how its district status now allows for such advancements. Plans for a medical college in Udalguri are also underway, with environmental considerations, such as tree preservation, being prioritized.
