In a bold exposé, Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has accused the ruling government of fostering irregularities in its much-touted air ambulance service. Demanding a no-holds-barred investigation, he pointed to recent events amplifying concerns over the program’s integrity.
Marandi detailed a egregious episode: denial of subsidy for a critical case involving over 30% burns, followed by approval after hiking fees for the Delhi airlift. This flip-flop, he said, reveals a scheme designed to milk funds from the needy.
Questioning the policy’s foundations, Marandi asked: ‘Basis for the 30% rule? Doctor consultations? Safety flip after payment raises red flags.’ He emphasized the hypocrisy in risk assessments tailored to revenue.
Operational for nearly a year with Rs 10 crore provisioning, the service’s reach is woefully limited, per Marandi. He called for FIR against the provider, blacklisting if irregularities confirmed, and comprehensive fare audits.
The uproar signals deeper governance issues in emergency medical aid. Marandi’s push for justice could catalyze reforms, ensuring subsidies truly aid Jharkhand’s ailing masses.
