Sukhbir Singh Badal, head of Shiromani Akali Dal, electrified supporters at Attari on Saturday with a 2027 manifesto highlight: restoring Attari and Fazilka as bustling trade gateways to Central Asia, paired with a new border industrial zone. This comes as a direct response to years of economic stagnation from closed borders.
‘Trade has been gutted by these closures,’ Badal said emphatically. Reopening for exports of fruits, veggies, and more will elevate Amritsar to international trade prominence, he predicted, ushering in regional prosperity.
Addressing industrial exodus to perk-offering states, SAD vows a special zone with investment sweeteners to rejuvenate the local economy and create jobs. Badal painted a picture of renewed vigor along Punjab’s frontiers.
He took pointed jabs at Congress and AAP governments’ failures, contrasting with SAD’s impressive deliverables: free agricultural power, irrigation revolutions, superior roads and airports, vibrant mandis, power infrastructure, and compassionate programs for food security, elderly support, and weddings.
‘Only SAD truly cares for Punjab—national parties serve Delhi’s whims,’ Badal proclaimed, appealing for votes to protect state pride. Undeterred by political attacks, he recommitted to public service. As 2027 approaches, Badal’s economic pledges signal SAD’s intent to reclaim relevance through tangible growth promises.
