Celebrities often venture into the restaurant business, aiming to share their culinary vision and generate income. Despite their popularity, some of these establishments eventually close. This week marks the closure of Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian Bandra in Mumbai, a restaurant co-owned with Ranjit Bindra, part of the Bastian Hospitality group. It has long been a favorite among Mumbai’s food scene. Shilpa and her husband, Raj Kundra, are embroiled in a controversy involving allegations of defrauding over Rs 60 crore through a loan-cum-investment arrangement between 2015 and 2023. Deepak Kothari, a Mumbai businessman, has filed a fraud case against Shetty and Kundra, citing misuse of funds meant for business growth for personal expenses. Their lawyer has denied the allegations, asserting the matter is civil and was already addressed by the NCLT Mumbai in 2024. Shilpa Shetty expressed her feelings on social media, announcing the closure and planning a special evening to honor the restaurant’s legacy.
