Priyanka Gandhi has accused the central government of employing tactics to suppress the opposition after the arrest of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Gandhi said that the government dedicated all the forests of Chhattisgarh to the Adani Group. She asserted that the ED’s raid and subsequent arrest were intended to prevent Baghel from addressing the alleged destruction of forests and violations of environmental laws in the state assembly. The ED’s investigation relates to a multi-crore liquor scam involving suspected illegal commissions and money laundering. The agency had previously seized Rs 30 lakh from the Baghel residence. The ED alleges that a scheme involving government officials, politicians, and liquor businessmen led to the illegal collection of approximately Rs 2,161 crore from liquor sales between 2019 and 2022.
