The sex ratio in Bihar has witnessed a sharp decline, with the number of girls born in the state decreasing at an alarming rate. A recent report released by the Civil Registration System (CRS) highlights this worrying trend. The report, based on the year 2022, indicates that the sex ratio at birth in Bihar has fallen to 891 girls per 1,000 boys. This is a substantial decrease compared to the 2020 figure of 964 girls per 1,000 boys and the 2021 figure of 908 girls per 1,000 boys. Despite Bihar’s relatively good record in terms of overall female births, the declining sex ratio is a matter of serious concern. The state recorded 30.70 births, including 14.70 lakh boys and 13.10 lakh girls.
