Bihar’s upcoming Assembly elections in 2025 have ignited fresh controversy surrounding the state’s electoral process. The focus of scrutiny is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with accusations of discrepancies, including the presence of deceased individuals and the absence of eligible voters. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, has claimed his name is absent from the draft voter list. He cited his participation in the enumeration process during the special revision. In response, Janata Dal (United) accused Tejashwi of misrepresenting the situation. Tejashwi, during a Patna press conference, asserted, “My name is not in the electoral roll. How will I participate in the elections?” He further stated that even with his EPIC number, his information could not be located in the system. The Patna district administration countered, confirming Tejashwi’s registration but indicating a change in his polling station and serial number. Tejashwi expressed concern about potential manipulation of voter data, questioning how many others had experienced similar changes. JDU’s Neeraj Kumar criticized Tejashwi, calling him a “political fraud.” The Election Commission promptly countered Tejashwi’s claims, clarifying that his name does appear in the draft electoral roll. The ongoing dispute has heightened political tensions. The draft electoral roll has been released, with a limited number of applicants providing required documentation. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll is a specific voter list verification process in Bihar ahead of the elections.
