The upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025 have ignited fresh debates, specifically concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Allegations of irregularities, such as the inclusion of deceased voters and the exclusion of living citizens, have emerged. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, has reported that his name is missing from the draft voter list, despite having filled out the enumeration form during the electoral roll revision. He questioned his ability to participate in the upcoming elections. The Janata Dal (United) criticized Yadav, accusing him of misinforming the public. During a press conference, Yadav emphasized that his name was not present in the roll and that even after entering his EPIC number, the information was not found in the system. The Patna district administration countered that Yadav’s name is registered, although his polling station and serial number were modified. Yadav expressed concerns about how many others have been impacted by similar changes, suggesting a deliberate attempt to manipulate the voter list. JDU’s Neeraj Kumar denounced Yadav, accusing him of political deception. The Election Commission swiftly dismissed Yadav’s claims, stating that his name is included in the draft electoral roll. The incident has heightened political tensions in Bihar, especially in the run-up to the elections. The draft electoral roll has been published, with a low percentage of applicants having submitted required documentation.
