India’s expressway boom reaches Bihar with the ambitious Amas-Darbhanga project, a 189-km six-lane highway set to compress travel times dramatically. Part of Bharatmala, NHAI’s endeavor could wrap by 2026, turning NH-119D into a north-south lifeline.
Launching from Amas on Delhi-Kolkata’s NH-19, the route powers through seven districts to Darbhanga’s Bela Nawada on NH-27. It ingeniously integrates Patna Outer Ring Road and the Ganga-crossing Kaccha Dargah-Bidupur bridge, dodging traffic nightmares.
At its core, the expressway tackles Bihar’s travel woes head-on, reducing five-hour hauls to 150 minutes. It interconnects powerhouses like Aurangabad, Gaya, Patna, and Darbhanga, while empowering remote areas with unprecedented access.
Expansions loom large: linkage to UP’s Ghazipur-Manjhi stretch for seamless UP-Bihar travel, and a push to Nepal’s Jaynagar for trade acceleration. Airports benefit too—Darbhanga, Patna, and Gaya now just a quick drive away.
Economic ripples will reshape realty in Patna, Vaishali, Samastipur, and more. Rising land values, fresh housing, commercial spaces, and tourism will fuel growth. Villages along the way—over 15—stand to thrive with direct connectivity.
Fuel efficiency, safety, and speed define this project. As groundwork advances, Bihar positions itself as an infra frontrunner, bridging divides and igniting progress.
