A video featuring Congress MP Tariq Anwar being carried by villagers in flood-affected Katihar, Bihar, has sparked controversy. The incident, captured during an inspection of the flood-hit regions of Manihari and Barari, prompted criticism from the BJP. Anwar has since addressed the viral video, attributing his actions to a bout of heatstroke. He clarified that the villagers, concerned about his health and the muddy conditions, offered to carry him. Anwar stated that the locals expressed their willingness to assist him, preventing him from walking through the difficult terrain. He also made a political statement, suggesting that the people of Bihar are ready to support the opposition in the upcoming elections, referencing the support received during recent rallies. The BJP has criticized the incident, with Shehzad Poonawalla questioning the need for VIP protocol during a flood inspection and the BJP’s official X handle also criticizing the incident.
