The state of Odisha is under the grip of heavy rainfall, with the forecast predicting its continuation until July 4. The impetus for this inclement weather is a low-pressure area, which has shifted inland after forming over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD’s mid-day bulletin indicates the system will traverse North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next two days. An orange alert has been declared for eight districts, where very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated. The coastal areas are also expected to experience squally weather, prompting an advisory for fishermen to stay ashore due to rough sea conditions.
