Shockwaves rippled through Darbhanga after a brutal hit-and-run on SH-17 wiped out three promising young lives. The boys, fresh from a cricket match, were cruising on a lone bike near Sonpur village when a rogue vehicle slammed into them, killing Pankaj Kumar, Ankit Sahni, and Vivek Sahni on the spot.
Details emerged of the harrowing scene: the trio from Akhrah village tumbled far from the point of impact. Concerned residents loaded them into vehicles for the PHC dash, but it was too late—pronounced dead by attending physicians. Biroul police took charge, postmortem conducted at DMCH, as grieving kin arrived.
The community’s pain is palpable. ‘These kids were inseparable, always playing together,’ said relative Moti Sahni, struggling with the loss of his nephew. Homes stand silent, streets deserted in collective grief over the avoidable loss.
Police assure action. SDPO Prbhakar Tiwari detailed the ongoing hunt: CCTV footages under review to pinpoint the escaping driver. ‘No leniency for such callousness,’ he affirmed.
Beyond the immediate tragedy, this points to systemic issues—speeding on highways, underage riding, and hit-and-runs. Experts call for heightened patrols, awareness drives, and infrastructure upgrades to prevent future heartbreaks in Bihar’s accident-prone stretches.
