During a public dialogue, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared the progress of Bihar’s electricity reforms. He reflected on the pre-2005 era when the state, including Patna, faced frequent power outages. The government’s efforts to boost the energy sector and extend electricity to every village and hamlet were highlighted. Kumar also pointed out the successful implementation of the ‘Har Ghar Bijli’ scheme, which provided electricity to all homes by 2018. The government’s commitment to affordable electricity was underscored by the announcement of 125 free electricity units monthly for all domestic consumers. This policy, which took effect in July, benefits 1.89 crore households. Moreover, the government is encouraging solar energy through installations on government buildings and offering solar benefits to domestic users. The event, attended by numerous citizens, also featured testimonials from residents expressing gratitude for the free electricity scheme.
