In a move aimed at easing travel during the festive period, the Bihar government is offering substantial benefits to those traveling to and from the state. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced that travelers utilizing interstate bus services during Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath, and Holi will be eligible for special discounts. The government has sanctioned ₹24.06 crore to facilitate this initiative.
The plan involves operating buses through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model during the festival seasons of 2025-26. Discounts will be applicable to various bus categories, including Deluxe Non-AC, Deluxe AC, and Deluxe Sleeper AC buses, with the necessary budgetary approvals in place.
The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) estimated the cost of this discount scheme to be ₹24.06 crore. To bridge the funding gap, with only ₹10 crore allocated in the present budget, the remaining amount will be provided from the Bihar Contingency Fund (BCF).
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing public transport infrastructure in Bihar. The government is dedicated to ensuring convenient and secure travel for all, both within Bihar and for those returning. A total of ₹24.06 crore has been approved for special discounts on interstate bus operations.
Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Minister had previously shared information via social media platform X that the central government will be running 12,739 special trains for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. This marks a considerable increase from the 7,500 trains operated in 2024. Notifications for the majority of these trains, totaling 8,591, have already been issued. This initiative, as per Samrat Chaudhary, underscores the Modi government’s dedication to facilitating the homecoming of millions of Biharis during the festive season.
