Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader, has been given a deadline of August 16th by the Election Commission to surrender his voter ID card, which the commission has deemed “clearly fake.” The order stems from a controversy surrounding the authenticity of the document. The ECI has made it clear that using forged government documents is illegal. The instruction was conveyed through a letter from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Electoral Registration Officer of the Digha Assembly constituency. The officer had previously requested Yadav to submit the voter ID for verification. The ERO’s review of historical voter records indicated that the Election Commission had never issued a voter ID with the number Yadav referenced. The letter emphasized the legal implications of creating and using false government documents and reiterated the demand for the voter ID’s submission by the given date.
