A key development in Bihar’s road network has emerged as the central government declared the Patna-Purnia Expressway as a National Expressway, now known as National Expressway-9. This project represents a milestone as the first expressway within Bihar to be completely built within the state. Bihar’s Road Construction Minister highlighted this as a moment of pride and pledged continued state cooperation to ensure the project’s timely completion. The expressway promises to substantially reduce travel time between Patna and Purnia, enhancing regional connectivity and fostering development within the Seemanchal region. The initiative aims to revitalize Bihar’s transportation framework and drive socio-economic advancement in the eastern regions of the state. The 250-kilometer expressway will link Mirnagar Arezi near Hajipur to Hansdah in Purnia, passing through various towns and villages. It incorporates extensive infrastructure development, including major bridges, railway overbridges, interchanges, underpasses, and connecting link roads to key district headquarters like Samastipur, Saharsa, and Madhepura. Currently, land acquisition is progressing across more than 250 villages in six districts, with construction activities set to begin immediately after the acquisition process, thus marking a significant step forward for Bihar’s infrastructure growth.
