Tragedy struck near Jairamnagar station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, as a passenger train, the Korba Passenger Express, collided with a goods train. The devastating impact, which saw the front coach of the passenger train mount the freight train, has claimed at least four lives. The District Collector has confirmed the fatalities and indicated that the number of deceased could rise. Emergency services, including railway and medical personnel, have been deployed to the accident site. Rescue efforts are actively underway to provide aid to the injured and manage the aftermath. The collision has severely affected rail operations, particularly on the busy Bilaspur–Howrah route, due to extensive damage to infrastructure, including overhead lines and signaling equipment. The incident has led to the cancellation and diversion of numerous trains, impacting passengers across the region.
