Outrage has swept through Tamil Nadu after a DMK leader, Jaypalan, was caught on video issuing what many perceive as a death threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The video, circulating widely online, shows the DMK South District Secretary making inflammatory remarks during a protest in Tenkasi. Jaypalan allegedly referred to PM Modi as a demon and stated that the country would only benefit if he were ‘eliminated.’ The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted swiftly, with Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran leading the charge. Nagendran condemned the remarks as a serious threat to national security and questioned the prevailing law and order situation in the state. He further criticized the silence of local elected officials, including Tenkasi MP Rani Srikumar and Sankarankoil MLA Raja, during Jaypalan’s speech, interpreting it as tacit support for violence. The BJP is now calling for the swift arrest of Jaypalan. This political controversy surfaces just days before Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled visit to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where he is expected to attend the Southern India Natural Farming Summit and disburse funds under the PM Kisan scheme.
