In a bid to fast-track Mumbai’s infrastructure, BMC has slapped a ₹50 lakh ultimate penalty on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) flyover contractor amid mounting delays.
Abhijit Bangar, Additional Commissioner for Projects, led a hands-on review Wednesday of the Dindoshi Court-Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari flyover in Phase 3(A). The 1.26 km elevated span, turning sharply near Ratnagiri Junction Hotel with an integrated rotary, is key to easing cross-suburban bottlenecks.
Progress hits 75%: 31 pillars ready, 20/30 spans cast. Focus now shifts to final spans, beams, deck slabs, and connectors, with a drive to wrap up pre-monsoon for a May 31, 2026 public debut.
The contractor’s dawdling drew Bangar’s ire, yielding orders for more labor, machines, and the fine. At Chitranagari, essential roadwork stalls due to drainage, sewers, and an Adani transformer—relocation is non-negotiable.
Bangar inspected Goregaon’s twin tunnel launching shaft too: 200x50x30m dimensions, first dig complete, cradles in motion. Cranes of 350 MT (arrived) and 800 MT (imminent) gear up for TBMs in this high-tech venture.
This episode highlights BMC’s resolve against slippage, positioning GMLR as a game-changer for efficient, secure travel in traffic-choked Mumbai.
