CCTV Installation Across Indian Railways: Protecting Passengers with Advanced Technology

The Indian Railways is prioritizing passenger safety by installing CCTV cameras in a substantial number of coaches. The North Central Railway (NCR) will spearhead this project, fitting 1,782 coaches across Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra divisions with these systems. This includes both LHB and ICF coaches. The implementation will occur in stages, with key routes like the Prayagraj-Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Express and others receiving priority. The use of AI-enabled cameras in premium trains like Prayagraj Express will allow for real-time monitoring and immediate alerts for any unusual activity. Each AC coach will feature four cameras, positioned to provide extensive coverage of passenger movements. General coaches, SLR coaches, and pantry cars will have six cameras installed. These cameras are designed to operate effectively in the dynamic environment of the railway system, recording clear videos even at high speeds and in low-light conditions. The footage will be continuously monitored at NCR headquarters and divisional offices. This initiative forms part of the Indian Railways’ larger strategy to integrate technology for enhanced security and is a significant step towards a safer and more secure travel environment. The project reflects the commitment to passenger well-being and aligns with the ongoing digital transformation efforts within the railway network.
