The Himachal Pradesh assembly has passed a bill altering the appointment process for Vice-Chancellors at the state’s agricultural universities. Under the new legislation, the Chancellor will make the appointments, but will do so with the assistance and advice of the state government. The original 2023 bill, passed by the House and sent to the Governor for approval, faced objections and was returned. A revised bill was subsequently passed in 2024, but the Governor referred the original 2023 amendment bill to the President of India through the Union Home Ministry.
