Three mine workers, two of whom are women, sustained injuries following an explosion at South Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (SECL) Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh. The blast occurred around 2-3 PM on Monday as a crew of seven to eight workers was preparing explosives for a scheduled detonation. Eyewitness accounts indicate the explosion happened unexpectedly, causing debris to strike workers and nearby vehicles. The injured have been admitted to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia and are being treated for minor injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident, with initial indications pointing towards a potential technical malfunction. The mine has been secured, and safety evaluations are being conducted before operations can resume.
