In a ceremony held in New Delhi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah honored officials from Chhattisgarh for their crucial roles in recent anti-Naxal operations. Shah praised their efforts and the success achieved, emphasizing the government’s resolve to eliminate Naxalism. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma attended the event.
The Home Minister, in a message shared on X, expressed his admiration for the officials and announced his intention to meet the soldiers who demonstrated bravery in these operations. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to freeing India from the threat of Naxalism.
The anti-Maoist operations, overseen by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister, are being carried out by security forces in Chhattisgarh. A significant operation involved the Chhattisgarh Police (including DRG forces from various districts) in the Abujhmad region from May 18 to May 21, 2025. This led to an encounter on May 21, 2025, in the forests of village Boter, resulting in the death of 27 Naxals, including CPI (Maoist) General Secretary Basavaraju alias Gaganna, and the recovery of a substantial amount of arms and ammunition.
Among the honored officials were Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Additional Director General of Police Vivekanand, Inspector General of Police Sundarraj, and several Superintendents of Police. The event was attended by senior officials including Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka.
