A senior police officer, ASP Akash Rao Giripunje, lost his life in an IED blast in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred near Dondra village on Monday morning while police were patrolling in response to a bandh called by CPI(M). ASP Giripunje, who was leading the patrol, sustained critical injuries and later died during treatment at the Konta hospital. The attack has led to increased search operations in the region. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra described the loss as a tragic event, recognizing ASP Giripunje’s bravery. This attack underscores the continuing challenges posed by Naxalites, who are reacting to successful anti-Naxal operations in the state. This incident follows previous attacks targeting security forces, with the aim of ending Naxalism by March 2026.
