A woman in Bilaspur has reported a case of triple talaq after enduring dowry-related harassment. The incident occurred in the Tarbahar police station area, where the husband allegedly subjected his wife to demands for dowry, leading to physical and mental abuse. The victim married Nasir Ali in December 2022, and her family had met all dowry requirements at the time of the wedding. The abuse began shortly after, with the husband pressuring her for a motorcycle and making other accusations. Despite attempts by family and community elders to mediate, the abuse continued. The husband eventually pronounced ‘talaq’ three times, effectively ending the marriage and forcing the woman to leave the house. The woman reported the incident to the Mahila Thana, and the police have filed a case against the husband, his mother-in-law, and others. The charges include violations of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, and dowry harassment. The police are currently investigating the matter.
