In a tragic event in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, an IED blast orchestrated by Naxals resulted in the death of ASP Akash Rao Giripunj and injuries to several police officers. The explosion occurred near Dondra village. The police were patrolling the area in the wake of a bandh called by the Naxals. The ASP of the Konta division succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The injured police officers were taken to the Konta hospital for medical care. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed his sorrow, recognizing the ASP’s bravery and numerous gallantry awards. The incident has prompted an extensive search operation in the region. This incident underscores the continuing challenges of combating Naxalism, which is causing a sense of resentment as a result of the ongoing operations of the security forces. In January 2025, a large Naxal attack in the Bijapur district resulted in nine fatalities, including security personnel and a civilian driver. The ongoing IED attacks pose a major threat. The incident took place in the morning.
