A devastating IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district claimed the life of ASP Akash Rao Giripunje and injured multiple police officers. The incident occurred near Dondra village as police were on patrol, responding to a bandh called by the CPI(M) on June 10th. ASP Giripunje was critically injured and later died while receiving medical attention at Konta hospital. The blast occurred between 9 am and 10 am on Monday. The state’s Deputy CM, Vijay Shamra, acknowledged the loss, highlighting Giripunje’s bravery and numerous awards. The attack reflects the ongoing violence as Maoists continue to target security forces. The security forces have had success in curbing the insurgency, which has led to the Maoists becoming desperate. Prior instances of attacks include a major Maoist attack in Bijapur in January 2025, which resulted in the deaths of nine people. Authorities have increased search operations and are working to combat Naxalism.
