Two horses in Ambikapur, Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, were euthanized after testing positive for glanders. The horses, belonging to the Sanjal breed, received lethal injections from the veterinary department. They were buried in Bhittikla. Glanders is a serious disease impacting horses, donkeys, and mules, with potential human transmission. A local man had the horses for wedding services. The horses were tested several times, with initial results being inconsistent. After a fifth test, both horses were confirmed to have glanders. A three-month ban on the entry of equine animals has been enforced in Ambikapur, and contact tracing is underway.
