Tragedy struck an open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh region on Monday when an explosion injured three workers. The incident happened at South Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (SECL) Chirmiri mine during preparations for a scheduled blasting operation. Reports indicate that a group of workers, including two women, were engaged in placing explosives. The blast occurred unexpectedly as they were moving to a safe zone. The force of the explosion sent rock debris flying, impacting nearby personnel and equipment. The injured individuals were quickly taken to the SECL hospital in Kurasia for treatment. All three are said to be stable and receiving care for minor injuries. Officials suspect a technical error may have led to the premature detonation, but a thorough investigation has been launched to confirm the cause. The mine site has been secured, and operations are on hold while safety measures are re-examined.
