A mining operation in Chhattisgarh took a dangerous turn on Monday when an explosion occurred at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine, managed by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). Three workers, two of whom are women, sustained injuries during preparations for a scheduled blasting activity. The incident took place between 2 pm and 3 pm when workers were engaged in placing explosives. The blast reportedly happened prematurely, sending flying debris that affected workers and vehicles in the vicinity. Emergency services quickly responded, and the injured were taken to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia. They are currently stable and expected to be discharged soon. SECL officials indicated that a technical issue is the likely reason for the unplanned detonation, though a thorough investigation is in progress to confirm the exact circumstances. Safety protocols are being reviewed to prevent future occurrences.
