To address the persistent threat of human-elephant encounters, the forest department in Jashpur has closed 10 kilometers of road through the Tapkara range. The measure was taken after a herd of 37 elephants chased two motorcyclists, Bablu and Rajkumar Nagvanshi, leading to a dramatic rescue operation. The department’s current management protocol involves a four-point strategy designed to segregate human activity from elephant corridors. Officials emphasize that road closures are temporary and targeted at easily rerouted paths. This strategy has resulted in 2025 seeing the lowest frequency of human-elephant conflicts in Jashpur’s recent history, showcasing a successful balance between wildlife conservation and community safety.
