In a move to support small businesses, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to write off VAT liabilities of up to ₹25,000 for dues exceeding a decade. This decision will provide relief to more than 40,000 traders and reduce the burden of over 62,000 pending cases. The cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, also approved amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to simplify business processes. The approved bills, set to be introduced in the upcoming monsoon session, include provisions to facilitate input service distributors, reduce deposit requirements for appeals, and clarify tax regulations, fostering a more transparent and efficient business environment.
