The Chhattisgarh High Court has shown its disapproval of the rising road accidents in the state. Acting on a public interest litigation, the court, led by Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, examined the issue. The court specifically targeted the operation of liquor shops and the encroachments made by roadside dhabas (eateries) along the highways. The court’s action follows a suo motu cognizance taken last year based on media reports. The court has now issued notices to NTPC and SECL, requesting their response to the situation.
