A gruesome act of violence has been reported from Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, where Maoists have killed a former Maoist who had surrendered and a local villager. The incident occurred in the hours leading up to the arrival of Union Minister Amit Shah for a visit to the state. The murders took place in the village of Yampur Sandra Bor, where Veko Deva, a former Maoist, and Samaiya, a local, were killed. The motive behind the killings is believed to be suspicion of providing information to the authorities, though official confirmation is still pending.
