Chhattisgarh has reported its first death related to the new COVID-19 variant. The victim, Sonraj Golchha, an 86-year-old resident of Rajnandgaon’s Azad Chowk, succumbed to the infection after being admitted to a private hospital in Raipur. He suffered from hypertension and high blood sugar. His COVID test was positive, and he passed away on Saturday. The state’s active cases have now surpassed 50, with one new case reported on Monday, bringing the total to 51. CMHO Dr. Netram Navratan confirmed that samples will be taken from the deceased’s family members and those in contact with him. There are no reported symptoms in other family members currently. This incident follows a concerning trend, with 11 deaths recorded across India in the last 24 hours.
