Chhattisgarh is witnessing a shift as solar energy consumers are becoming energy producers, driving the state towards its clean energy targets. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated a solar energy awareness campaign at Raipur’s Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, emphasizing the significance of the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The Chief Minister flagged off the Surya Rath, an initiative designed to educate the public about the advantages of solar energy, the PM Suryaghar scheme, and related subsidies. Additionally, he facilitated an online transfer of ₹1.85 crore in subsidies to 618 consumers, each receiving ₹30,000. The CM highlighted that Chhattisgarh is actively promoting solar energy, aiming to progress from subsidized electricity bills to free electricity. He encouraged citizens to embrace clean energy and promote the scheme within their communities. The CM detailed that the central and state governments are jointly providing subsidies, supported by banking facilities, with a long-term goal of providing fully free electricity. He further mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, which allows consumers to produce and sell solar energy, thereby benefiting from lower electricity costs. CM Sai also noted the success of the Saubhagya Yojana, which has brought electricity to all villages, and the rapid advancement of the nation toward clean and green energy. He contrasted Chhattisgarh’s increased electricity production capacity since 2000 and highlighted the significant investments in the energy sector under the new industrial policy.
