The monsoon season, typically spanning June to September, has concluded, yet several regions are bracing for a shift in weather patterns. Despite the monsoon’s exit, the meteorological department anticipates light to moderate rainfall in various states, accompanied by potential heavy showers and gusty winds. Specifically, the forecast indicates a likelihood of rain across numerous states during the Dussehra festivities.
Delhi-NCR experienced significant rainfall on Tuesday. The weather bureau anticipates unfavorable conditions today, with generally overcast skies and a chance of light showers or drizzle. Similar weather is projected for Delhi on October 2nd, Dussehra, and partly cloudy conditions are expected on October 3rd and 4th.
Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a notable weather shift since Tuesday. The weather department anticipates rainfall in the state between October 1st and 5th, implying that Dussehra celebrations in UP may be accompanied by rain. Thunderstorms and lightning are possible in eastern and western regions today, with the potential for light to moderate rainfall in several districts.
Bihar is also expected to experience rain on Dussehra. Heavy rainfall is anticipated throughout the state from October 2nd to 7th, with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across most areas. Light rain is possible today in Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Arwal, while heavy rainfall could occur in Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, and Katihar.
Maharashtra, heavily impacted by the southwest monsoon, is not yet seeing a reprieve. Further rainfall is expected today, although a considerable decrease in rainfall is predicted for areas excluding parts of Konkan between October 1st and 3rd. Mumbai, Thane, and surrounding areas will likely have cloudy skies and light showers.
Rajasthan has issued a heavy rain alert for 16 districts, with the weather department forecasting that the rainy spell may last until October 3rd. Dussehra celebrations (October 2nd) are also at risk of heavy rain, with a yellow alert issued for 22 districts.
Uttarakhand is also seeing the return of rain, with heavy rainfall expected between October 1st and 2nd. An alert for heavy rain has been issued for certain areas on October 3rd and 4th.
Himachal Pradesh, following the complete withdrawal of the monsoon on September 26th, enjoyed clear weather. However, dry weather is expected from October 1st to 3rd. Rain is not predicted for Dussehra, but the presence of a Western Disturbance will bring poor weather from October 4th to 6th, and a yellow alert has been issued.
Additional regions anticipating rain include Kutch and Saurashtra in Gujarat, where heavy rainfall is possible. Heavy downpours may also occur in West Bengal, Sikkim, the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh from October 2nd to 5th. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana on October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
