A distressing case has surfaced in Bemetara, Chhattisgarh, where an elderly woman is battling to prove she is alive. Shail Sharma, 81, went to the Bemetara Collector’s office to challenge a death certificate that declared her deceased. She stated that the certificate was fraudulently obtained by family members, allegedly to gain control of her late husband’s substantial property. The woman’s husband had purchased 30 dismil of land on Maihar Road in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. This land was initially managed by her daughter-in-law. The transfer of the land ownership to the daughter-in-law and her daughter sparked a dispute, prompting the woman’s grandson and eldest son to intervene. Investigations revealed that Shail Sharma had been declared dead 32 years ago, with a death certificate issued in 1993 from Maro Chowki, Bemetara. The alleged motive behind this deception was property acquisition. The woman, who has since traveled abroad, is now seeking justice. Authorities are expected to address this unusual situation and reinstate her legal standing.
