The Chhattisgarh government has ended the electricity bill subsidy, effective August 1st. This move will affect domestic consumers, who will notice a substantial increase in their electricity bills for September. Previously, domestic consumers received a 50% discount on their electricity consumption up to 400 units per month, starting from March 1, 2019. This subsidy benefited a wide range of consumers, from those using fewer units to those consuming up to 400 units. Even those exceeding 400 units received the discount on the initial 400 units. The bills for consumption above 400 units were charged at the full rate. This subsidy provided a reduction of 558 to 1223 rupees on monthly electricity bills, offering considerable relief to consumers. The discontinuation of the scheme will now lead to higher monthly expenses for households.
