Two mares were euthanized in Ambikapur, Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, due to Glanders, a dangerous disease. The veterinary department took the action after the diagnosis of the Sanjal breed mares. Their remains were buried at Bhittikla. Glanders is known to affect horses, mules, and donkeys. Humans can also contract the disease. The owner of the mares, a resident of Nawapara, kept them for use in ceremonies. The decision came after multiple tests, which eventually confirmed both mares were positive for Glanders.
