Irregularities in weighing paddy: Grain farmers are being looted in the paddy procurement centre, paddy is being re-weighed in gunny bags.

Amit Pandey, Khairagarh. Paddy procurement is going on continuously in Chhattisgarh. On one hand, enthusiasm is being seen among the farmers and a large number of farmers are reaching the committees to sell their paddy produce. On the other hand, a case of blatant cheating of innocent farmers has come to light. This matter is from Khairagarh district. Where even after reducing the weight of gunny bags in the paddy procurement centre, farmers are taking more paddy than the prescribed quantity by re-weighing the gunny bags in the paddy weighing centre.

According to the information, during the purchase of paddy from farmers in Jhuranadi Seva Cooperative Society of Khairagarh, paddy is being taken by weighing it more. After weight reduction of each gunny bag, 40 kg paddy is being purchased again with the weight of the gunny ranging from 41 kg 200 grams to 41 kg 700 grams.

The laborer working on the paddy procurement campaign also admitted that his committee manager had asked him to purchase more than 40 kg. When committee manager Prakash Kumar Chandel was discussed in this matter, he said that one and a half kilos are not being taken anywhere. 41 kg 200 grams of paddy is being purchased in the entire state. The Collector was informed about this matter. In which he said that he will get an investigation done on this subject.

However, it remains to be seen what steps the administration and the responsible people will take regarding this open looting of farmers who provide food grains.
