A devastating incident unfolded in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, last night during a Ganesh Visarjan procession, leaving three people dead and 22 others injured. A speeding Bolero vehicle plowed into the procession around 10 PM, causing chaos and inflicting severe injuries.
The accident occurred in the Juru Dand village, under the jurisdiction of the Bagicha police station. Villagers were proceeding towards a pond to immerse the Ganesh idol when the speeding Bolero careened into the crowd. The impact resulted in multiple injuries, with many of the injured in critical condition.
The driver of the Bolero was caught and assaulted by the crowd, while the other occupants managed to escape. The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Arvind, 17-year-old Vipin Kumar Prajapati, and 32-year-old Khirowati Yadav. Additionally, 22 other people sustained injuries in the incident.
Following the accident, the injured were promptly transported to the local community health center for immediate medical attention. Doctors provided treatment, and those with more serious injuries were subsequently transferred to Ambikapur Medical College. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examinations.
Jashpur MLA Raymuni Bhagat visited the hospital late at night to meet with the families of the injured and assured them of the administration’s full support. District Collector Rohit Vyas and SSP Shashimohan Singh also arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
District SP Shashimohan confirmed the apprehension of the Bolero driver and stated that an investigation has been initiated. Authorities are focused on providing medical care to the injured and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
