In a notable victory for anti-insurgency efforts, 50 Naxal rebels have surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district. Among those laying down arms were 32 women cadres, marking a significant aspect of this mass surrender. The group also relinquished 39 firearms. This large contingent of surrendering Naxals, reportedly under the leadership of senior figures Rajman Mandavi and Raju Salam, handed themselves over to the Border Security Force’s 40th Battalion at the Kamtera camp. Security officials view this as a substantial weakening of the Maoist presence in the Maad area. The surrendered cadres include several key leaders, enhancing the impact of this surrender. Furthermore, this is only the initial phase of anticipated surrenders, with over 100 additional Maoist fighters expected to surrender in Bijapur district imminently. Increased community engagement by security forces aims to facilitate more returns to mainstream society.
