Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district witnessed a major surrender event as 21 Maoist cadres, comprising 13 women, laid down their arms and rejoined society. The surrendered individuals, who were part of the CPI (Maoist)’s Keshkal Division, handed over 18 weapons to the police, signaling a potential weakening of the group’s local presence. The surrendered arsenal included advanced weaponry like AK-47s and INSAS rifles, alongside SLRs and .303 rifles, a testament to their previous operational capabilities. This surrender is a direct result of the ‘Poona Margem’ program, designed to offer a path to rehabilitation for those wishing to leave the outlawed movement. The police confirmed the presence of Division Committee Secretary Mukesh and several other committee members among the surrendered cadres.
